TYCA Presents TYCA Festival

TYCA 24 will be one of the most spectacular youth arts festivals Taunton has ever seen!

This colorful carnival of creativity will showcase original music, theatre, dance, circus, poetry, visual arts and more.

The very best up-and-coming local artists will perform alongside leading industry professionals as well as grassroots community groups, performing for the very first time.

All artists are under 26 but this festival is truly for everyone!

“I have never witnessed or experienced such a vibrant, diverse and inspiring showcase and celebration of children and young people’s creativity with such strong leadership from young people themselves.”
- Councillor Caroline Ellis

Outside in Somerset Square there will be a packed programme of live music, circus and dance from 12-7PM. No need to book for the outside performances, just turn up!

Inside the Brewhouse we have 3 incredible youth-led theatre productions. See below for details.

These productions operate on a “pay-as-you-feel” system. No one will be turned away for lack of funds but we anticipate selling out so book early to avoid disappointment.

This has been made possible due to funding from Arts Taunton, Taunton Town Council and Arts Council England.

The Detention at TYCA Festival

‘This is a play that should be seen.’ – Around Wellington
The Detention is a new play inspired by The Breakfast Club and An Inspector Calls. It follows five students of opposite social status stuck in a Saturday detention. The suspicious Mr Fairton tells them they can only leave by telling each other why they are there. The only problem – none of them actually know why! As the clock ticks, they end up learning a lot more about themselves and each other than they originally imagined.
A deep and meaningful reflection of our times which will leave audiences laughing, crying and thinking twice about what’s below the surface of content-consuming, self-obsessed, chaotically unhinged teenagers today. After a sell-out run at the Wellington Arts Centre, the anticipated one-night-only revival of The Detention closes TYCA Festival 2024.
Written and directed by 18-year-old Madi Bouchta, a TYCA commissioned artist, and performed by an extremely talented cast of 17-19 year olds, this play is not to be missed.
Recommended for audiences 12+. Sensitive topics discussed, viewer discretion is advised. Please note, there is a minimum donation of £5 for this event. The recommended price is £15. However, no one will be turned away for lack of funds, so please email ku.oc.notnuatstra%40acyt if finance is a barrier.
